6/8/2008 Sermon Recap “How Will You Glorify God in Your Death?”

Posted by Rick Hogaboam on July 8, 2008

Jesus tells Peter that He will die and Peter is quick to ask about the beloved disciple, John, to which Jesus essentially says that He will do with John as He pleases. Jesus then tells Peter to follow Him.

John adds some commentary saying that Jesus was talking about the death by which Peter would glorify God with. We learn here that God has ordained our life and death and it is all to glorify Him. Paul said that for him to live was Christ and to die gain. We must be gripped by this reality that God wants to be glorified in our lives and our deaths.

May the sermon challenge you to examine your own lives and your understanding of death.

6/22/08 Sermon Part 1 of 13 in series “Building Blocks for a Thriving Church”: “Saved by Faith Alone”

Posted by Rick Hogaboam on July 8, 2008

I make the case that the church and true Israel has always been founded upon faith. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. Hebrews 11 points us backwards to those who did great exploits from mighty faith and encourages us to follow in their footsteps. Paul argued in Romans and Galatians that Abraham is a father for all the faithful, jew and gentile alike. It is those who have HEART circumcision that are pleasing to God. The sign and manifestation of heart circumcision is Faith.
