The Underhill family, for those of you who didn’t get a chance to meet them, are a family from Spokane, WA who was here for 2 months undergoing assesment at Mission Aviation Fellowship here in Nampa. They succeeded in their assesment and have an assignment in Indonesia. They now have to raise money for that trip. Anyhow, it was awesome ministering to this family while they were here and they plan on returning and visiting us again. Here is a little note from them sent to me:
Hello Rick (& Mimi) We are now back in Spokane. It was good to get home. We thought of you guys as we were thrust back into the old groove. Eli said something really funny when we drove into the parking lot of our church. He said, “where are we? Oh…yes! I like this one!” you kind of had to be there to hear his voice. he had had a rough time figuring out where he was. We had a great time being a part of your congregation and getting to know your family. Thanks for the goody bag and card. Look forward to our next meeting. In Christ, Brian (& Holly)

Well, I ended up ripping the mic out early on in the message (due to sound issues), so there is no MP3 file available. I covered miracles, prophecy, discernment of spirits, tongues, and interpretation. It is my prayer that these past 3 sermons will help guide us as a church as we seek the Spirit’s edifying presence among us.

Fall to Worship is a free, outreaching, God-centered, worship music event in Lakeview Park starting at 5pm, LABOR DAY, Monday, Sept 1st. Rick will be offering small evangelistic messages, there will be a dramatic performance from a youth team at Kuna Kife church in Nampa, Alfy the Clown will be on site entertaining children with face painting and pocket magic, while the bands “Beloved” and “Even If” offer up the music. The church is providing hot dogs and popsicles. This will be advertized on KTSY - so it’s an opportunity for our church to shine! We need volunteers to help cook, answer any questions people may have, clean up, breakdown sound equipment and pray with anyone who wishes to. Everyone can bring their families and invite their friends to join us. Talk with Jon Goranson (941-4611) and/or Jeff Johnson (869-1590) for more information.

Matt and Andrea Masiewicz have recently attended our church and Matt just called to inform me that baby Gavin was born Thursday night, August 7th in Nampa, but has been transported to St. Lukes and is in the ICU due to breathing difficulties. His lungs aren’t functioning as they ought. The family would appreciate your prayers for baby Gavin.
Lord Jesus, we ask that you would visit baby Gavin this moment and open up his lungs with the breath of life. Bring peace to the family and assure them that You are working out Your will in this manner. Amen.

Pastor Rick examines the relation of God’s promise in Joel within redemptive history in relation to the arrival of Messiah and the outpoured Spirit on the day of Pentecost. Pastor Rick contends that the work of the Holy Spirit in the New Covenant should not be restricted to regeneration and sanctification, though miraculous and glorifying to God, but should also include an “empowering/anointing” aspect which equips the Church for service and ministry. Pastor Rick will further examine the work of the Spirit within the Church next week as he deals with the gifts mentioned by Paul in 1 Corinthians 12.

Pastor Rick examines the role prayer played in the early church and should play in today’s church. Examined are the age old questions of “why pray to a God who is already in control and knows everything?” and “does prayer change God’s mind?”. The main points of the sermon were: 1. Prayer is a weapon in Spiritual warfare…2.Prayer is necessary for successful witness and advance of the Gospel…3. Sin protects us from the sin of worry and anxiety…4.Prayer is necessary for our Spiritual growth in Christ.
